Explanation of Terms

IPR: IPR stands for Intellectual Property Rights and refers to the rights of the creator of any creative work. These exclusive rights allow owners of intellectual property to benefit from the property they have created, providing a financial incentive for the creation of and investment in intellectual property. According to federal law, images produced by a professional photographer are copyrighted the moment they are created. Federal law prohibits copying or reproducing copyrighted material without permission from the owner of the copyright, i.e., the photographer. We (HENDRIXHUNTER.COM) use several variations of release forms to allow or disallow our clients to freely reproduce images with or without monitary consideration as specified in the release form. For example, if HH is hired to shoot family portraits, the images are released in digital form for the client to edit and reproduce at will free and clear of any further responsibility to the photographer. This however, does not allow the subject(s) to sell the images without the consent of the photographer. While we may include said image(s) in a portfolio either physical or digital, we connot as specified in the release form sell those images without the consent of the subject(s). We still maintain the IPR as creator of the images, but our use of the images is very limited. In a situation where we agree to a TFP (Time for Prints) photography session, our return for our time and talent is that the model(s) release all rights to the images allowing us to edit, sell, publish, and/or distribute in any manner whatsoever at our sole discretion.

RAW: RAW is a term used to describe digital images taken at the highest uncompressed state possible for the camera used in the photo session. This may vary greatly, but typically digital images are taken at 72 ppi (pixels per inch) in small, medium, or large JPG. A RAW shot is typically 240 to 310 ppi, retaining much more detail information in the image, but also producing an image with a much greater file size. The additional charge for shooting RAW is to compensate for the additional time and materials used. For example, a large JPG image taken on the Canon 7D is approximately 6 to 8 mb, whereas a RAW shot from the Canon 7D is approximately 22 to 26 mb. Shooting RAW requires more media to store the images, more time to edit the images, and places more wear time on electronics.
